Optometry is an independent, primary health care profession that encompasses the prevention and remedy for disorders of an eye and the visual system.An Optometrist is a person, who is skilled in optometry involved in recognition of ocular and visual sign of an eye, understanding the wide range of problems affecting the eye and then referring the patient to the concerned specialist doctor. Thus, an optometrist diagnoses, treats and prevents the diseases related to the eye.

Optometrists also work with other health professionals in co-managing the care of patients to provide general eye and vision care in both the way as General practice and as Specialized practice such as contact lens, geriatrics, low vision services (for visually impaired patients), occupational vision (to protect and preserve vision and minimize eye strain), pediatrics, sports vision, and vision therapy.

B.Sc. Optometry

Duration : 4 years course (3+1 year internship) affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS)

Intake per year – 30 students

Eligibility – Candidates should have passed Higher secondary examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
Should have 17 years of age as on 31st December of the admission year.

Master of Optometry

Duration : – 2 years course affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS)

Intake per year – 12 students

Eligibility – B.Sc., Optometry Degree from KUHS or other universities recognized as equivalent to KUHS with a minimum of 55% marks.

Ph D in Optometry

 Affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS)

Diploma In Opthalmic Assistance

Duration : 2 years

After completion of the course the students can undergo an internship for a period of 3 years in various specialty departments.

Eligibility : Candidates who have passed plus two Examination of the Board of Public Examinations, Kerala or any other examination recognized by the Board of Public Examination, Kerala as equivalent there to are eligible to apply. The candidate must have secured an aggregate of 40% marks in Optional Subjects put together.

No of Seats : 30 seats / batch (50% Seats reserved under Govt. Merit Quota)

Course Commencement: November/ December

Affiliation / Approval : Approved by Kerala Paramedical Council & conducted by Directorate of Medical Education, Govt. of Kerala
