World Sight Day celebration 2021

World Sight Day (WSD) is an International Day of Awareness, held annually on the second Thursday of October to focus attention on the global issue of eye health. This year World Sight Day was held on 14th October 2021. On World Sight Day, we work together to raise public awareness of blindness and vision impairment as major international public health issues, Influence Governments/Ministers of Health to participate in and designate funds for national blindness prevention programmes and educate target audiences about blindness prevention.

Ahalia School of Optometry and Research center (ASORC) Celebrated World Sight Day by conducting free eye check-up camp from 4th October till 9th October 2021 at Ahalia school of optometry and research center’s practical block in Ahalia campus. The camp was organized in association with Optometry Council of India.

On the very day of 4th October morning, eye camp was started its work.  Many people from outside Ahalia campus also came for their eye check-up.   Staff and students of Ahalia campus also utilized this opportunity.   A total of 10 students, 10 junior optometrists were giving their services. A total of 119 people got their eyes checked during the week.  Almost 9 people were referred to Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital, Palakkad for further evaluation.  The eye camp was equipped with all the necessary instruments needed for a comprehensive eye checkup.  The tests included distance and near vision test, refraction, ocular muscle alignment & motility test, Accommodation, Convergence, Colour Vision, Stereopsis, Intra Ocular Pressure, Slitlamp examination and Direct Ophthalmoscopy.

Camp was successfully organized under the Guidance of ASORC Head of the Department, Dr Venkataramana Kalikivayi along with eminent and experienced faculties Ms. Lavanya Madabhushi, Ms. Nithya S Raveendran, Mr. Rashad Ibn Muhammed, Ms. Abitha A S, Ms. Sruthy S, Ms Hafeena Irshad, and Ms Lathika.
